United Way makes 100 top-rated charities list
United Way of KFL&A ranked by MoneySense.ca as a top 100 Canadian charity
KINGSTON, ONT. / November 19, 2018 –
For nine years, MoneySense‘s Charity 100 has been helping Canadians make informed choices about their donations.
In their most recent article, MoneySense reported that the United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington has made it to the 100 top-rated charities list for 2019, based on two major criteria: financial efficiency and transparency.
Financial efficiency (charity and fundraising efficiency, need for funding and level of CEO/executive director salary) accounts for 60 per cent of the scoring. Charity transparency (availability of financial statements, transparency in social results reporting) accounts for 40 per cent of the final score. Charities included in the list must also raise at least $2 million in annual revenue.
“This is a tribute to the hard work of the United Way board of directors, campaign cabinet, staff and thousands of volunteers and donors. It is well-deserved recognition of this United Way’s commitment to being transparent and accountable”, said Bhavana Varma, President & CEO, United Way of KFL&A.
The United Way KFL&A has been recognized for accountability and transparency in financial reporting for a few years, having won the Voluntary Sector Reporting Award (VSRA) three years and having received the status of ‘Exemplar’ in 2017. Charity Intelligence Canada has recognized the United Way KFL&A for accountability and transparency in financial reporting with a 4-star rating.
