Kingston Pen Tours revenue helping to end Youth Homelessness in KFL&A

Youth Homelessness is a complex issue facing the KFL&A community. It takes ongoing funding to provide the continuous support of resources and programs capable of having a positive and measurable impact on the lives of these youth in our region. On July 11, 2018, the City of Kingston, St. Lawrence Parks Commission and Correctional Services Canada presented the United Way KFL&A with the final installment of 50% of net proceeds raised from the Kingston Penitentiary Tours delivered in 2017. A cheque for $421,415.44 was presented and will go towards local Youth Homelessness initiatives. In total, the tours have raised $1.54 million for the United Way KFL&A.

The Goal:

By 2020, 80% of youth who enter the homelessness system in KFL&A will maintain their housing or will be housed within (30) days.

United Way of KFL&A would like to acknowledge this traditional territory’s longer existence and its significance for the Indigenous people who lived and continue to live on Turtle Island.

We are situated on traditional Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Huron-Wendat land. There are Métis and other non-status First People from many Indigenous Nations present in our community today. This acknowledgement symbolizes the United Way KFL&A’s first step, of many, along this path toward Indigenous reconciliation, in a respectful manner.
