KINGSTON, ONT./Oct. 17, 2016 – Experience what it is like to put out a car fire, ride a fire ladder or take the firefighters combat challenge at Kingston Fire & Rescue’s Community Day for the United Way. It’s 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Regional Training Centre at 3 Terry Fox Dr. (just south of Highway 401 at Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard).
A number of the day’s activities will be offered for no charge, including: photos with Sparky, the mini combat challenge for kids and demonstrations (boot donations are welcome).
For a $10 donation to the United Way of KFL&A ($20 for the family), you can try special activities like ladder rides, riding in a fire truck and putting out a car fire. Glocca Morra Farms and The Smokin’ Carnivore food trucks will also be on site.
“Bring family and friends out to have good fun for a good cause – and get a taste of what it’s like to be a firefighter,” says Fire Chief Shawn Armstrong. “I challenge Kingston’s toughest to come test their mettle in the firefighter’s combat challenge. They don’t call it the toughest two minutes in sport for nothing!”

- Antique Fire Truck Display
- Sparky and truck photos (Boot donations are welcome)
- Miniature combat challenge (kids)
- 11 a.m. – Combat challenge demonstration
- 1 p.m. – Burn cell demonstration (sprinklered vs. unsprinklered)
- Tours of the training tower
- Recycling truck

11:30 a.m. – Participate in the firefighter combat challenge – the toughest two minutes in sport!

Donations will benefit the 75,000 Kingstonians who use a United Way-funded agency.
