United Way of KFLA Takes Aim at $3,418,000 Goal
Every dollar raised makes a difference in our community
KINGSTON, ONT. / September 10, 2013 –United Way kicked off its annual fall fundraising campaign by unveiling the fundraising goal as more than 600 enthusiastic supporters and volunteers packed the Ambassador Conference Resort. 2013 Campaign Chair Lori MacDonald announced that this year the campaign target is $3,418,000 – a $68,000 increase over last year’s goal.
“It is an honour for me to be the Campaign Chair this year. I have been actively involved in United Way workplace campaigns through my career,” says MacDonald. “Nothing brings the community together quite like the annual fundraising campaign. Time and time again, individuals and workplaces in KFLA go the extra mile to help strengthen our community and assist those who need help the most.”
The campaign will focus on telling the United Way story and attracting additional donors, especially in the workplace. “The campaign truly does belong to the community,” says United Way President and CEO Bhavana Varma. “United Way brings people from across the community together and in common purpose, raising funds and finding resources to support local needs.”
Approximately 80% of the money raised in 2012 was from workplaces. The balance came from individuals, businesses and events in the community. More than 400 KFLA work sites will run United Way campaigns over the next 12 weeks, with the help of more than 2,000 volunteers.
The United Way of KFLA takes great pride in stewardship of both donor trust and donor dollars. For the year ending 2012, 88% of funds received were invested in programs while 12% went towards fundraising and related administrative costs.
