KINGSTON, ON (November 30, 2015) — At today’s Touchdown Breakfast, United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington (United Way KFLA) announced the launch of ’75 Years of Caring,’ a year-long celebration of its 75th anniversary that will recognize the thousands of people who have contributed time and money to help people in our communities since 1941.
“Over the past 75 years, United Way KFLA has raised more than $64 million dollars, including the $3.4 million raised during this year’s campaign. That money also represents countless hours of volunteer time and hard work,” said Mike Ryan, Campaign Chair. “The generosity of our community is humbling and astounding. It’s worth celebrating – and that’s what we’ll do over the next year.”
More than five hundred people gathered in the ballroom at the Ambassador Hotel to celebrate the successful close of the 2015 campaign and to unveil the logo for the 75th anniversary year. A song by local singer-songwriter, Tim Aylesworth, set the tone of the celebrations with lyrics that focus on 75 years of sharing, giving and caring, and, “standing together for the United Way.”
“A caring community has a strong United Way, and the strength of our local United Way is thanks to the kindness, generosity and spirit of the many volunteers, donors and member agencies who have done so much for Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington over the last 75 years,” said Susan Nicholson, Chair of United Way’s Board of Directors.
United Way KFLA History
United Way KFLA began in September 1941, when the Kingston Community Chest was incorporated with the mandate to develop cooperation and generate financial support for community-based social service agencies. The inaugural campaign raised $23,500 and the funds supported five community agencies.
Since 1941, United Way KFLA has raised over $64 million dollars. Today, we are a strong community, supported by a strong network of volunteers and donors. This year, United Way KFLA supported 62 programs delivered by 45 agencies, which helped 75,000 local residents.
