During National Youth Week, Kingston City Council has declared May 3rd Youth Homelessness Awareness Day in Kingston.
To mark the day, the United Way is hosting a reception, sponsored in part by City of Kingston

216 Ontario Street, Kingston, ON
The community is invited to attend the reception and hear about local efforts to end youth homelessness in Kingston and area, including presentations from local youth.
The reception will be followed by a briefing to City Council at their Council meeting that evening, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The reasons that youth become homeless are different than those of adults, and therefore, the solutions also need to be different in order to meet youth’s needs.
Kingston & Area
- 1 in 3 people in shelters are youth between the ages of 15-24 (1 in 5 national)
- Youth unemployment rate is 3-4 times higher than that of adults
- 50%+ of the homeless population in KFLA are female (1 in 3 national)
