Community Caring Celebration

June 15, 2016 – United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.  The United Way was founded in Kingston in 1941 as the Community Chest. In its first campaign it raised $23,500 and funded 5 agencies.  75 years later, the United Way raised $3.4 million and supported 57 local  programs.

To celebrate this very special anniversary, an event will be held to celebrate 75 years of caring in the community.  A committee has been working since 2015 to coordinate this event.

“The United Way is an important community entity.  Over the years, we have invested millions of dollars in local programs,” says Roland Billings, volunteer chair of the 75th Anniversary committee.  “This event helps to celebrate many years of dedication and caring.  We are delighted to celebrate with our partner agencies and thank the community for their many years of support.”

The Community Caring Celebration takes place at Lake Ontario Park on Saturday June 25, 2016 from 11:00am – 2:00pm.  The event features a BBQ, bouncy castles, face painting, fun activities provided by United Way’s partner agencies.

There will be live music. Performers include:

  • 80’s Enuff,
  • Taya Williams,
  • Julia Finnegan,
  • Brian Howell and Friends and
  • a special song written and played by local musician, Tim Aylesworth.

Thanks to lead sponsors Novelis, Kingston District Labour Council and City of Kingston, there is no charge for this event.

Participating sponsors include Culligan Water, Pepsico, Renaissance Music, Grant’s No Frills (Division Street), TD Wealth, Bubba’s Pizzeria and Mio Gelato.

United Way of KFL&A would like to acknowledge this traditional territory’s longer existence and its significance for the Indigenous people who lived and continue to live on Turtle Island.

We are situated on traditional Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Huron-Wendat land. There are Métis and other non-status First People from many Indigenous Nations present in our community today. This acknowledgement symbolizes the United Way KFL&A’s first step, of many, along this path toward Indigenous reconciliation, in a respectful manner.
