Audrey and Peter Scholes Memorial Fund provides for most vulnerable in our community
KINGSTON, ON / Monday, July 10, 2017 – The Eternity Fund, United Way’s endowment fund, received its largest amount ever with a bequest from long time donors, Audrey and Peter Scholes. The bequest is over $1.5 million, pushing the United Way’s endowment fund to over $2.3 million.
“We are grateful to Mr. & Mrs. Scholes for generously leaving a portion of their estate to the United Way. Their contribution will permanently help the most vulnerable in our community now and into the future,” says Jody DiRocco, Chair, United Way of KFL&A Board of Directors.
As per the wishes of Audrey and Peter Scholes, the United Way will create the Audrey and Peter Scholes Memorial Fund. The income earned from this fund will support programs designed to relieve poverty by providing food and other basic supplies to low income individuals, counselling and other programs for the indigent, shelter and rehabilitation for persons of low income, and helping vulnerable and hard to serve people to integrate into the community.
The Eternity Fund is the permanent endowment fund of the United Way and is separate and distinct from the United Way’s annual campaign fundraising effort. The Endowment Fund was set up in 1982 to provide donors with an option to continue their tradition of caring and invest in the future. When individuals make a donation or leave a bequest to the endowment fund, the money is invested and the principal preserved in perpetuity. The income earned is used to support essential services and programs, ensuring an endowed gift will benefit future generations.
Additionally, Audrey and Peter Scholes have left a bequest to the Community Foundation of Kingston & Area as well as some other charities.
Gifts to the Eternity Fund will ensure that United Way’s tradition of caring continues – both today and forever. To learn more about the United Way KFLA endowment fund, please visithttps://www.unitedwaykfla.ca/ways-to-give/eternity-fund/
