KINGSTON, ON / Monday, January 15, 2018 The Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario will be visiting Kingston on Thursday, January 18. Her Honour’s visit will include a discussion facilitated by the United Way and key members of the Youth Homelessness and Youth Employment collaborative to learn about our community’s collective approach to ending youth homelessness in Kingston and area. Her Honour is particularly interested in how the work in our community has positive impacts on issues of inclusive prosperity and social cohesion.
There will be a roundtable discussion held at City Hall on Thursday January 18, 2018 inside Memorial Hall. Members of the United Way Staff team and board will welcome Her Honour to the Limestone City. A discussion will take place inside memorial hall and feature many community leaders and youth speakers with lived experience.
“This event is a great opportunity to share with the Lieutenant Governor all the work that has taken place towards ending youth homeless in our community”, says Bhavana Varma, President & CEO, United Way of KFL&A. “We have seen positive changes around this issue in our community as a result of our collective work. This is an important day where we are able to share these stories and hear from youth with lived experience in our community”.
After the discussion the Lieutenant Governor will visit the recently renovated Youth Hub (426 Barrie Street, Kingston) to see programs in action with an opportunity to meet staff and clients of the local facility.
Media are invited to photograph the Lieutenant Governor’s arrival at City Hall at 2pm. There will be an opportunity to speak with Her Honour after her visit to the Youth Hub, Barrie Street, at 4:30pm.
