Everyone can help flatten the curve
United Way KFL&A has been working with frontline agencies to help provide personal protective equipment or funds to purchase this equipment to keep both staff and clients safe. Based on an Order issued Friday, June 27th by KFL&A Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore, all individuals entering a commercial establishment in the KFL&A region will now be required to wear a face covering while inside the establishment. This Order is mandatory and impacts all residents, visitors, City services, and facilities in the region.
In response, United Way KFL&A will be selling cloth face masks at a cost of $12, which includes the cost of the mask and postage for delivery within KFL&A (shipping and sales only within the region). Proceeds from each mask will go towards the purchase of disposable face masks for vulnerable members of our community. For many, getting face masks isn’t as easy as it sounds
Many do not have the means to purchase masks for themselves or their families. Those who face homelessness can’t always clean or store them safely, meaning they often need disposable masks.
Distribution
In the coming weeks, United Way KFL&A will distribute masks to a number of local agencies, so they can help the clients they serve. There will also be additional distribution sites in Kingston for people who may not be accessing agency services.
Distribution has already started, with agencies distributing to their clients. Additionally, we appreciate our partners distributing at the City of Kingston at 362 Montreal Street and KFL&A Public Health at 221 Portsmouth Avenue.
Cloth re-usable masks will be available as we receive supplies.

Whether you purchase masks or make a donation, you are helping to protect the most vulnerable members of our community across Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington.
Buy
You can buy cloth masks for your workplace, your family, or other groups. Proceeds from your purchase will provide masks to those most in need.

what happened to all the money the government gave this charity and you charge for masks ?
Government funding is directed to very specific programs that are funded; it is not to be used for masks. United Way is covering the cost of providing masks through agencies to those in need. The proceeds from the sale of masks will offset some of these costs and allow more people to be helped.
