United Way Day of Caring gives back to our community
Nineteenth Annual Day of Caring takes place on June 7th, 2019
KINGSTON, ON (May 30, 2019) – On Friday, June 7th, over 300 volunteers from workplaces across the region will tackle light construction, maintenance and gardening projects at 30 local agencies across the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington region.
United Way Day of Caring is an opportunity for volunteers to show their local love and see firsthand the impact of their donations. Much needed projects in local agencies are completed and Day of Caring volunteers get to learn about the local impact of their donations through a hands-on experience.
The United Way Day of Caring is organized by a volunteer committee that has been hard at work for months, identifying projects, recruiting teams, organizing equipment and pursuing material sponsors.
“Day of Caring gives workplace teams the chance to give back to their community. Volunteers have an opportunity to learn more about local agencies while assisting them in the completion of much needed work,” said Committee chair, Michele Finney. “Encouraging volunteerism and instilling in workplaces the power to give, is so important in growing a strong, healthy and connected community.”
United Way Day of Caring was introduced to KFL&A in 2001. Since then, over 15,000 volunteer hours have been invested in over 350 projects.
The day begins at 8:00 a.m. with a rally at the Portuguese Cultural Centre of Kingston (959 Division Street). Teams of volunteers tackle projects all morning at various locations and return to the Portuguese Centre for a wrap up BBQ.
Please note, a full list of projects and addresses will be sent to media prior to Day of Caring to help plan coverage.
