If you’ve ever wanted to know more about local community programs and initiatives, you are in luck. Starting Tuesday, January 15, Your TV will feature the United Way of KFL&A on their new weekly show entitled Limestone Lens.
The program, produced by Your TV’s Curtis Brunet and hosted by Donna Chambers offers insight into the Kingston community.
“The show is weekly with a focus on community news, events, arts and entertainment and a look at what is going on in the community this week,” said Brunet. “We want to engage community and really reflect the community back on itself.”
The show is broken up into five minute segments and will feature the United Way and Community Foundation of Kingston and Area every week as well as other groups in the community like the Memorial Centre Farmer’s Market, arts and entertainment groups and more that will appear as events and programs pop up.
“We really want to focus on events people may not know about or organizations that people may not be aware of – these things are important and meaningful and it is sometimes hard to get the word out about them,” said Chambers. “We can help them get more attention in the community and in the case of United Way, give people some insight into local needs and programs.”
The initial episode will feature two familiar United Way faces – 2018 Campaign Chair Fred Godbille and 2017 Campaign Chair Pat Murphy – and will look at the success of the most recent campaign, but also what the United Way does throughout the rest of the year.
“This is a great opportunity for people to learn about the community,” said Bhavana Varma, President and CEO of United Way of KFL&A. “The United Way is an important part of the local fabric and we want people to recognize that this is their United Way. Many people just see the United Way in the fall every year, but work continues year round. This is an opportunity to showcase and highlight all the great work that our volunteers and agencies do in the KFL&A community. We’d like to thank Your TV for this initiative”
In the coming weeks, look for features on upcoming events like the Next Gen Masquerade, a look at different programs that United Way runs, and agencies that benefit from the funds raised throughout the campaign each year.
“We hope that this inspires community members to become more involved and learn more about United Way – maybe take part in an event or volunteer,” said Varma. “This will encourage the community to tune in and see how they can be involved. Every volunteer makes a difference and we want people to know more about the incredible opportunities right here in our community.”
The first episode of Limestone Lens airs on Your TV at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15 on Cogeco cable channels 13 or 700 in HD. For more information about United Way KFL&A visit https://www.unitedwaykfla.ca/
