KINGSTON, ON (Nov. 30, 2016) The United Way KFLA announced today that the 75th Annual Campaign goal has been exceeded, raising an incredible $3.7 million. The announcement was made this morning in front of 500 volunteers at the Campaign Touchdown Breakfast hosted by Ambassador Conference Resort and sponsored by TD Bank.
Sixty percent of funds raised are donated by individuals in the community or employees who give through a workplace campaign. The rest is raised through corporate gifts and events. The total campaign amount includes over $300,000 from Kingston Penitentiary tours which ran in the summer.
Today’s announcement includes reports to date as well as donations that traditionally come in December. United Way will continue to accept donations as workplaces wrap up fundraising events and individuals plan their giving to coincide with the holidays.
“It was an honour to be a part of the 75th anniversary campaign here in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington. I am very proud of what our community was able to accomplish, thanks to an amazing volunteer team”, said Stephen Kelsey, 2016 campaign chair. “It was an amazing experience. Participating in the campaign really opens your eyes to how generous and lucky we are as Canadians to have organizations like the United Way making a difference in our community.”
The money raised by the campaign will start being distributed locally almost immediately. United Way volunteers will carefully review funding applications and make recommendations to the United Way Board of Directors in the coming weeks. A few of the funds have also been directed by donors to registered national charities.
