KINGSTON, ON (Nov. 30, 2015) KFL&A residents rose to the challenge raising $3,414,000 in an eleven week campaign to support local programs.
The 2015 Campaign Chair Mike Ryan, Regional Deputy Commissioner, Correctional Service Canada, made the announcement this morning in front of 500 volunteers at the 2015 Campaign Touchdown Breakfast at the Ambassador Conference Resort.
Today’s announcement includes reports to date and donations that traditionally come in December. The United Way Campaign raises funds annually, with the bulk coming from employees in workplaces and individual donors.
“I am very proud of what we were able to accomplish throughout this campaign. Every single donation we received this year will continue to support and give hope to those in need, and I am very honoured to have been a part of that”, said Mike Ryan. As has been said “To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.”
The event included an announcement of 2016 Campaign Chair, Col. Stephen Kelsey, Base Commander CFB Kingston. Col. Kelsey will take over the reins of the campaign in April 2016.
The breakfast was used to unveil United Way 75th anniversary celebrations. Children from the Boys & Girls Club rushed the stage in “flash-mob” style to perform a dance to a Song written by volunteer Tim Aylesworth specifically for the United Way 75th Anniversary.
There are still campaign dollars coming in from donors who traditionally give in December and the United Way will continue to accept donations as workplaces wrap up fundraising events and individuals plan their giving to coincide with the holidays.
All of the money raised by the United Way campaign will provide support to people in KFLA. Local volunteers will carefully review funding applications and make recommendations to the United Way Board of Directors in the coming weeks.
